Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySYLVIA WINNIFRED GILROY In her sleep, Sylvia passed away on September 19, 2007. Sylvia was born April 23, 1917 in England. She came to Canada as a war bride in 1949, settling in Northwestern Ontario. Later, with her husband Vern Gilroy (predeceased) they lived in Emerson, Steinbach and Winnipeg, retiring in MacGregor, MB. During the war years in England she worked as a nurse's aid and here she worked at the old Children's Hospital and the newer one. Her love for children expanded to working with the Children's Aid and The Family Bureau of Winnipeg. Sylvia raised four children, Michael Paelink (Susan), Marcia Beaulieu (deceased), Rod Gilroy (Deb) and Bonnie Butcher (deceased). Sylvia is survived by her sister Hilda Caldwell (Jack) of MacGregor, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. After retiring with Vern in MacGregor Sylvia was a volunteer at the hospital and Hampton House and was a member of St. Paul's Church. She loved spending time in her garden and playing cards with friends. A few years ago, she moved into the Fort Garry Care Home and the past year the Vista Park Lodge. She always said both residences made her very comfortable and took great care of her. She was 90 years of age. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2007 in the United Church in MacGregor, MB. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
